Selector Shaft Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Thrust piece (T10135)
Procedure
• General repair information. Refer to => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.
• Rules of cleanliness for working on transmissions. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
- Place the selector lever in the "P" position.
- Press the selector lever cable ball joint - 1 - off of the selector shaft lever.
• Take care not to bend or kink the selector lever cable.
- Drive out the roll pin - 1 - at the selector shaft lever - 2 - in the direction indicated - arrow - until the selector shaft lever can be pulled off the selector shaft.
- Pierce the shaft seal with a small screwdriver and pull it out.
- Lubricate the outer circumference and the space between the sealing ring sealing lips with Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF).
- Press the new shaft seal onto the selector shaft.
• Installation position: The open side of the shaft seal faces the transmission.
- Press on the new shaft seal until seated using thrust piece (T10135) and assembly lever - A -, ensuring the shaft seal does not distort.
• To prevent the assembly lever from slipping when pressing in the seal, place a slip resistant base (e.g. piece of rubber) between the assembly lever and subframe - arrow -.
- Drive the spring pin back onto the removed selector shaft lever in the opposite direction to the lever.
- Slide the selector shaft lever onto the shaft and drive in the spring pin.
- Push the selector lever cable ball socket - 1 - onto the selector shaft lever.
• Do not bend the selector shaft lever when pressing off, otherwise the selector mechanism can no longer be adjusted correctly.
- Check the ATF level. Refer to => [ ATF Level Checking and Correcting ] 09LA Automatic Transmission.
