ATF, Filling for ATF Flush
ATF, Filling for ATF Flush
• The Multitronic 01J transmission requires a different ATF than shift automatics. Only ATF for CVT transmission which can be obtained as replacement part must be used.
• Do not let the engine run or tow the vehicle without ATF.
• The vehicle must be horizontal.
• The illustration on the reservoir for ATF filler system for CVT gearbox (VAS 5162) in upper left graphic refers to the use of special ATF for CVT transmissions.
• In addition, the necessary work steps for filling are illustrated, which are described as follows:
- Secure the filled reservoir (VAS 5162) as high as possible on the vehicle.
• The valve on the (VAS 5162) must be closed.
• Engine must not be started if only a small amount or no ATF is in the transmission after repair work or after significant ATF loss.
• In this case, a preliminary filling with 4.5 to 5 liters of ATF must be performed.
- Place the used oil collection and extraction device (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.
- Remove the ATF inspection plug - B -.
- Attach the connection on the shut-off valve of (VAS 5162) into opening of ATF inspection plug - B -.
- Turn the valve to the filler hose - lower arrow -. The ATF flows into the transmission.
- Fill transmission with 5 Liter ATF.
- Selector lever in P and let engine continue to idle.
Only for vehicles from MY 2005;
• Selector lever in P:
Let engine run at high speed at 2500 - 3000 RPM for approximately 4 to 5 seconds immediately after starting.
Running the engine at high speeds is necessary so that the ATF pump is bled after a transmission repair.
If running at high speeds is not performed, the transmission can be damaged.
- By pressing the gas pedal, run engine at high speed at 2500 - 3000 RPM for approximately 5 seconds
All Model Years:
- Press the brake pedal and hold it down.
- Shift through all selector lever positions P, R, N, D, S and let each position remain shifted at idle for approximately 2 seconds.
- Selector lever in P and let engine continue to run at idle.
- Thread connection on shut-off valve of (VAS 5162) from ATF inspection plug opening - B -.
- Allow excess ATF to drain off.
- Install ATF inspection plug - B -.
