Right Timing Chain Cover
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
• Protective eye wear
• Sealant, refer to the electronic parts catalog ETKA
Removing
- Remove the right front muffler. Refer to => [ Front Muffler ] Front Muffler.
- Remove the connection for the coolant. Refer to => [ Coolant Connection ] Coolant Connection.
- Remove the left air filter housing.
- Remove the heated oxygen (HOS) sensor (G39).
- Remove the nuts - arrows - and then remove the right catalytic converter and lay it to the side.
• The installation location is shown with the engine removed.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose - 1 - and free it up - arrow -.
- Remove the bolts - arrows -.
- Loosen the clamp - 1 -.
- Remove the air guide pipe with the hose - 2 - for the crankcase ventilation still attached and lay it to the side.
- Remove the bolt - 1 - from the bracket - 2 - for the connectors.
• Ignore - 3 -.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and nut - 4 -.
- Open the clamp - 5 - and remove the coolant hose.
- Loosen the clamps - 1 and 2 -.
- Free up the wiring harness - 3 -.
- Swivel the left coolant pipe slightly to the left.
- Remove the bolts in the following sequence: - 8 to 1 -.
- Remove the bracket - arrow A - for the connectors.
- Push the bracket - arrow B - for the wiring harness to the side.
- Carefully remove the right cover for the timing chain from the bond.
Installing
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Right Timing Chain Cover, Tightening Specifications and Sequence ] Timing Chain Covers Overview.
• Replace O-rings.
• Secure all hose connections with hose clamps appropriate for the model, refer to the electronic parts catalog ETKA.
- Remove old sealant form the grooves in the timing chain cover as well as from the sealing surfaces.
Risk of contaminating lubricating system.
• Cover open parts of engine.
Risk of eye injury.
• Wear protective eye wear.
- Remove the sealant residue on the cover for the timing chain, cylinder block and cylinder head, for example using a rotating plastic brush.
- Clean the sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.
• Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.
- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter approximately 2 mm).
- Drive the right coolant intermediate pipe - 2 - out of the right timing chain cover with a drift.
- Install the O-rings - 1 - in the coolant intermediate pipe.
- Insert the coolant intermediate pipe into the right timing chain cover.
The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.
• Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.
- Apply a sealant bead - arrow - to the clean sealing surfaces of the right timing chain cover as shown in the illustration.
• Thickness of sealant bead: 2.5 mm.
• The timing chain cover must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the sealant
- Install the right timing chain cover with both brackets - arrows A and B - and tighten the bolts. Refer to => [ Right Timing Chain Cover, Tightening Specifications and Sequence ] Timing Chain Covers Overview.
The rest of the installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
- Installing the upper left coolant pipe. Refer to => [ Upper Left Coolant Pipe ] Upper Left Coolant Pipe.
- Install the oil filter housing. Refer to => [ Oil Filter Housing ] Service and Repair.
- Install the right catalytic converter. Refer to => [ Right Catalytic Converter ] Right Catalytic Converter
- Install the heated oxygen (HOS) sensor (G39) , air filter housing and the air guide pipes.
- Install the connection for the coolant. Refer to => [ Coolant Connection ] Coolant Connection.
- Install the right front muffler. Refer to => [ Front Muffler ] Front Muffler.
