Front Thorax Airbag Igniter N199/N200

Driver thorax airbag igniter (N199) / front passenger thorax airbag igniter (N200)

Removing

• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and Testing Procedures ] Description and Operation.

• Follow the additional safety precautions when working with the side airbag. Refer to=> [ Side Airbag Additional Safety Precautions ] Side Airbag Additional Safety Precautions.

• Follow all regulations when disposing of pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storing, Transporting and Disposing ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storing, Transporting and Disposing.

- Remove the front seat. Refer to => [ Standard Seat ] Standard Seat.

- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Installing Front Seat on Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136 ] Installing Front Seat on Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136.

- Remove the seat backrest panel:

• Standard seat => [ Backrest Cover ] Backrest Cover.

• Multicontour seat => [ Backrest Cover ] Backrest Cover.

- Remove backrest:

• Standard seat => [ Backrest ] Backrest.

• Multicontour seat => [ Backrest ] Backrest.

- Remove the upholstery on the backrest until the bolt - 7 - for side airbag is accessible:






• Standard seat => [ Backrest Cover with Backrest Cushion for Standard Seat ] Backrest Cover with Backrest Cushion for Standard Seat.

• Multicontour seat => [ Backrest Cover with Backrest Cushion for Multi-contour Seat ] Backrest Cover with Backrest Cushion for Multi-contour Seat.

- Carefully pull backrest cover - 2 - as far forward as possible with backrest cushion - 3 - in the area of the side airbag.

- Remove the screw - 7 -.

- Release the side airbag - 6 - with the hook - 5 - from the backrest frame - 4 - and remove at the bottom from the pocket sewn into the backrest cover - 1 - while at the same time removing the side airbag wiring harness.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Replace bolt - 7 - and insert with locking compound; locking compound. Refer to Parts Catalog.

• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and Testing Procedures ] Description and Operation.

• Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting the electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.

• Observe all measures when installing the front seat. Refer to => [ Standard Seat ] Standard Seat.

Installation note: For example tightening specifications, replace components. Refer to => [ Front Side Airbag ] Front Side Airbag.
