Four-Way Lumbar Support, Version 1

Removal and installation is the same on the driver and passenger seat.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Special Pop Rivet Pliers (V.A.G 1753A)





Pop Rivet Pliers (VAS 5072)





Drill

Drill bit dia. 7 mm

Removing


Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Remove front seat:

Manual seat, refer to => [ Front Manual Seat ] Front Manual Seat

Power seat, refer to => [ Power Seat ] Power Seat

- Secure the seat on the (VAS 6136), refer to => [ Front Seat, Installing on VAS 6136 ] Front Seat, Installing on VAS 6136.

- Remove backrest cover panel, refer to => [ Backrest Cover ] Backrest Cover.

- Remove cover with upholstery, refer to => [ Backrest Cover and Upholstery ] Backrest Cover and Upholstery.

- Remove the rear rivet - 2 - on the backrest frame - 1 -.





- Remove the side rivets - 6 - on the backrest frame.





- Disconnect the bracket - 3 - for the four-way lumbar support - 4 - with the upper clips - 2 - from the backrest frame.

- Disconnect the electrical connectors to the motors - 1 - and - 5 - for the lumbar support adjustment.

- Remove the four-way lumbar support.

Installation


Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Before securing rivet - 4 -, a plastic washer - 2 - must be placed between four-way lumbar support - 1 - and backrest frame - 3 -.





Further installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, but observe the following:

Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.


Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition switched on.

If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again.
