Removal and Replacement
ATF Pipe, ATF Cooler, and ATF Filter Overview
There is a risk of damaging the transmission.
• Remove all the plugs on the ATF pipes and on the transmission that were installed during removal.
• The ATF cooling function will not work and the transmission will be damaged if the plugs are forgotten.
• The ATF wiring guide for the 2.0L TDI engine and all 6 cylinder engines is pictured in the illustration.
1 ATF Cooler
• Integrated inside the radiator
2 ATF Pipe, Return Pipe
• From ATF- cooler to the transmission
• Mark the ATF pipes before removing them as there is a risk of confusing them with one another
3 ATF- Pipe, Supply Pipe
• From ATF- cooler to the transmission
• Mark the ATF lines before removing them as there is a risk of confusing them with one another
4 Bolt
• 5 Nm
• First insert the ATF pipes with new O-rings by hand as far as the stop
5 O-ring
• Replace
• Coat with ATF before installing
6 Bolt
• 8 Nm
7 ATF- Pipe, Supply Pipe
• From ATF- cooler to the transmission
• Mark the ATF lines before removing them as there is a risk of confusing them with one another
• Nuts on the pipes, 29 Nm
• The ATF lines are secured to one another
8 ATF Pipe, Return Pipe
• From ATF- cooler to the transmission
• Mark the ATF lines before removing them as there is a risk of confusing them with one another
• Nuts on the pipes, 29 Nm
• The ATF pipes are secured to one another
9 Transmission
10 ATF filter
• Check for cracks
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ ATF Filter ] ATF Filter
11 Bolt
• 5 Nm plus an additional 90° turn
• Replace
12 Bolt
• 20 Nm
• First insert the ATF pipes with new O-rings by hand as far as the stop
• The retaining tab on the lower ATF pipe must lie on the ATF-filters threads
• The retaining tab on the upper ATF pipe must touch the lower one.
13 Bolt
• 8 Nm
14 Engine
15 Clip
• Installed, depending on the date of manufacture
• If the clip is installed, it must be reinstalled after a repair as the ATF pipes will otherwise become damaged.
• Attach between the ATF pipe markings
