Glove Compartment

Removing

On vehicles with the front passenger airbag -off- key switch (E224) , follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components => [ Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

- Turn on the ignition.

- Turn on the ignition and disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

- Vehicles with a storage compartment inside the glove compartment: Release the tabs on the left and right sides with a screwdriver - arrow - and then remove the storage compartment from the glove compartment.






- Vehicles with a CD player: remove the CD player.

- Remove the upper diagonal bolt - 1 -.






- Remove the side cover on the passenger side instrument panel => [ Instrument Panel Side Cover ] Instrument Panel Side Cover.






- Open the glove compartment cover and remove the screws - arrows -.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Remove the glove compartment far enough so the electrical harness connector on the central connector can be disconnected.

Installing

On vehicles with the front passenger airbag -off- key switch (E224) , follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components => [ Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Press the electrical connector together until it engages audibly.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on.

If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing, And Information System (VAS 5051).
