Air Supply Unit

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1783)

Removing

The air supply unit is installed on the underbody (spare wheel well).

- Place the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.

- Remove nuts - 1 -.






- Remove the stone chip protective molding - 2 -.

Make sure no dirt gets into the pressure air system.

Clean the area before removing connecting pieces for the air pipe lines or other components of the pressured air system.

Seal off any open pressure lines and connections in the pressure system immediately with plugs or cover them.

- Disconnect connectors - 1 -.






- Remove the air line - 2 - from the solenoid valve block and loosen it out of the clip - 3 -.

- Loosen the clamp - 5 - and remove the intake line - 4 -.

- Unclip the connector - 1 - from the bracket - 2 -.






- Remove the threaded sleeve - 3 - and remove the air supply unit - 4 -.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Air Supply Unit and Solenoid Valve Block Overview ] Air Supply Unit and Solenoid Valve Block Overview

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Air Line Connecting Pieces Tightening Specification ] Description and Operation

Tightening specification for the nuts on the stone chip protection: 9 Nm

- Place vehicle on wheels. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.

If the air supply unit was replaced, then the level control system compressor relay (J403) must also be replaced. Component location:.
