Ignition Coil: Service and Repair






Ignition Coils

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Ignition Coil Puller (T40039)

Remove the ignition coils from cylinder bank 1:

- Only remove the lower section of the air filter housing for cylinder 1 ignition coil. Refer to => [ Air Filter Housing, Lower Section ] Air Filter Housing, Lower Section.

- For cylinder 2 and 3 ignition coils, remove the air guide hose (open the hose clamp - 3 - and the clips - arrows -).





- Remove bolts from the ignition coil wiring harness.

- Release electrical connectors and remove connectors simultaneously from ignition coils.

- Remove ignition coils with Ignition Coil Puller (T40039) from spark plug shaft





Remove ignition coils from cylinder bank 2:

- Remove coolant reservoir - arrows -.





- Disconnect electrical connector to the engine coolant level warning switch (F66) on the bottom of the coolant reservoir and lay the reservoir aside with the coolant hoses - 1 and 2 - and - 3 - attached.

- Remove bolts - arrows -.





- Pull ignition coils approximately 30 mm out of the spark plug shaft using the Ignition Coil Puller (T40039).

- Release electrical connectors and remove connectors simultaneously from ignition coils.





Installing

- Insert all ignition coils loosely into spark plug shaft.

- Align the ignition coils to the connectors and then connect all of the connectors simultaneously onto the ignition coils.

- Press the ignition coils uniformly onto the spark plugs by hand (do not use an impact tool under any circumstances).

Further installation is performed in reverse order.

Tightening specification, wiring for ignition coils to cylinder head cover: 5 Nm
