Right Catalytic Converter, with Automatic Transmission
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)
• Transmission Support (T10337)
• Scissor-Type Assembly Platform (VAS 6131 A)
Removing
- Remove the right front muffler. Refer to => [ Front Muffler ] Front Muffler.
- Remove the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) (G39) and Oxygen Sensor (O2S) after Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (G130).
The suspension components could be damaged.
• Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, the steering gear or the subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.
• Do not support the vehicle on the subframe or the subframe crossbrace (for example by a floor jack or similar device).
- Remove the subframe crossbrace.
- Position the (T10337) on the (V.A.G 1383 A).
- Position the (T10337) on the bottom of the transmission.
- Lift the transmission slightly using the (V.A.G 1383 A).
There is the risk of an accident.
• The (V.A.G 1383 A) may only be used during assembly and must not sit unsupervised under the vehicle.
- Remove the bolts from the tunnel crossmember - arrows -.
- Next lower engine/transmission subassembly with (VAS 6131 A) only by dimension - a -.
• Dimension - a - = 35 mm maximum.
- Remove the nuts - arrows - and the bolt - 1 - and the right catalytic converter.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
• Tightening specification, refer to => [ Muffler Overview ] Muffler Overview.
• Replace seals and self-locking nuts.
- Install the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) (G39) and Oxygen Sensor (O2S) after Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (G130).
- Install the right front muffler. Refer to => [ Front Muffler ] Front Muffler.
- Install exhaust system free of stress. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Service and Repair.
- Install the subframe crossbrace, upper control arm and stabilizer bar and tighten the suspension strut on the control arm.
