Removing and Installing/Replacing Left Exhaust Manifold

18 40 010 - Removing and installing/replacing left exhaust manifold (N73)





Warning!
Scalding hazard!
Only perform these tasks on an engine that has cooled down.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove left oxygen control sensor. Replacing Left Lambda Oxygen Control Sensor
- Remove left oxygen monitor sensor. Replacing Left Lambda Oxygen Monitor Sensor
- Remove complete exhaust system. Removing and Installing Complete Exhaust System
- Secure engine in installation position with special tool. Securing Engine in Installation Position
- Lower front axle support. Lowering/Raising Front Axle Carrier
- Release lower universal joint of steering spindle. Replacing Universal Joint for Lower Section of Steering Spindle





For purposes of clarity, nuts are shown on removed engine.
Release nuts on exhaust manifold from below.
Remove exhaust manifold towards bottom and pull out towards rear.
Illustrations show N62.





Installation Note:
Replace seals.
Seal beads faces the exhaust manifold.
Coat threads with copper paste.
Replace nuts.
Tightening torque 11621AZ [1][2]11 62 Exhaust Manifold.





Assemble exhaust system.

Installation Note:
Check exhaust system for leaks.
Check function of DME.
