L: Tachometer Test

(J33431 Tester Available)

1. Disconnect connector to the Direct Ignition System (DIS).

2. Plug the J33431 I/P Tester into a wall outlet.

3. Connect the J33431-10 harness adapter to the I/P Tester.

4. Connect the black lead of the J33431-10 adapter to ground and connect the red lead to DIS connector C2 terminal C (WHT).

5. Set the Tester to 60Hz, 54 mph and the Power Switch to ON.

6. Turn the Ignition Switch to RUN.

^ If the Tachometer shows 1350 rpm, replace the DIS.

^ If the Tachometer does not operate, check WHT (121) wire for an open or short to ground. If OK, check that all I/P cluster connections are clean and tight. If OK, replace Instrument Cluster (see Service and Repair).

(J33431 Tester Unavailable)

Disconnect Instrument Cluster Connector C1. Measure voltage between ground and connector terminal C11, with the engine running.

^ If zero volts are measured, check the WHT (121) wire for an open. If the wire is OK, replace the Direct Ignition System.

^ If voltage varies between 0 and 5 volts, replace the Instrument Cluster (see Service and Repair).
