- To remove lock cylinder (20).
a. Remove pivot & pulse switch connector from bulkhead connector and remove 13-way secondary lock.
b. Remove two terminals of pass key wire harness from cavities 12 and 13 of pivot & (pulse) switch connector.
c. Remove wiring protector and wire harness strap.
d. Attach a length of mechanics wire to terminals to aid in reassembly.
e. Remove retaining clip from lock housing cover and gently pull wire harness through column.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: Place ignition to "LOCK" position to prevent uncentering SIR coil assembly. Ensure all fasteners are securely seated before applying needed torque. Failure to do may result in component damage or malfunctioning of steering column.
NOTE: Route wires from pass key lock cylinder as shown and snap retaining clip into hole in housing. Failure to do so may result in component damage or malfunction of pass key lock cylinder.
1. Install pass key lock cylinder.
a. Put wire terminals through column and snap retaining clip into hole in lock housing cover.
b. Install two terminals of pass key wire harness to cavities 12 and 13 of pivot & pulse switch connector. Cavity position is optional.
c. Connect 13-way secondary lock to pivot & (pulse) switch connector.
d. Switch connector to bulkhead connector.
2. Lock retaining screw (18).
- Tighten screw (18) to 2.5 Nm (22 lb.in.).
3. Install key from pass key lock cylinder set (20).
4. Install buzzer switch assembly.
5. Reinstall key in pass key lock cylinder set (20).
- Key in "LOCK" position.
6. Install turn signal switch assembly wire harness through steering column.
a. Let switch hang freely.
b. Connect switch connector to bulkhead connector.
c. Connect ground wire to stud.
d. Connect nut to stud.
- Tighten nut to 4.0 Nm (35 lb. in.).
7. Install coil assembly wire harness through column.
a. Let coil hang freely.
b. Install RSWC" connector to turn signal switch wire hamess.
8. Turn signal switch assembly and screws.
- Tighten screws to 3.4 Nm (30 lb.in.).
9. Connect signal switch arm with screws.
- Tighten screws to 3.0 Nm (27 lb.in.).
- Tighten screws to 2.3 Nm (20 lb.in.).
10. Install hazard knob assembly and multi-function lever.
11. Install inner race.
12. Install upper bearing inner race seat.
13. Install upper bearing spring.
14. Install turn signal cancelling cam assembly.
- Lubricate with grease; synthetic (service kit).
15. Install shaft lock.
16. Install new shaft lock retaining ring using J 23653-SIR to push down shaft lock.
- Ring must be firmly seated in groove on shaft.
NOTE: Set steering shaft so that tooth on upper steering shaft is at the 12 o'clock position wheels on vehicle should be straight ahead, then set ignition switch to "LOCK" position to ensure no damage to coil assembly.
17. Install wave washer.
NOTE: Coil assembly will become uncentered if :
1. Steering column is separated from steering gear and is allowed to rotate, or
2. Centering spring is pushed down, letting hub rotate while coil is removed from column.
NOTE: If a new SIR coil assembly is being installed, assemble pre-centered coil assembly to steering column. Remove centering tab and dispose.
NOTE: SIR coil assembly wires must be kept tight with no slack while installing coil assembly. Failure to do so may cause wires to be kinked near shaft lock area and cut when steering wheel is turned.
18. Ensure SIR coil assembly hub is centered.
19. SIR Coil assembly.
a. Pull-wires tight while positioning SIR coil to steering shaft.
b. Align opening in coil with horn tower and "locating bump" between two tabs on housing cover
c. Seat coil assembly into steering column.
20. Install Coil assembly retaining ring.
- Ring must be firmly seated in groove on shaft.
NOTE: Gently pull lower coil assembly, turn signal, and pass key wires to remove any wire to remove any wire kinks that may be inside steering column assembly. Failure to do so may cause damage to wire harness.
21. Install wiring protector and strap.
22. Complete remaining steering column assembly.
23. connect negative (-) battery cable.
24. If all service operations are completed, enable the SIR system; refer to "Enabling the SIR System".
