Brake Switch (Cruise Control): Adjustments
Assemble the brake booster pushrod to the brake pedal assembly in order to adjust the release switch assembly and the stoplamp switch assembly. An incorrect adjustment may cause the cruise control system to work improperly.Adjust the following components:
1. Do not press the brake pedal assembly.
2. Insert the cruise release switch assembly and stoplamp switch assembly into the retainers until fully seated against the brake pedal bracket.
3. Twist the switch to lock into the desired position.
4. Measure the distance from the end of the threads on the switch to the bracket. Make sure the clearance is 1.55 to 1.7 mm (1/16 in). Perform steps 1 and 2 again if necessary.
5. Inspect for properly adjusted release switch assembly and for stoplamp switch assembly using the following brake pedal assembly travel distance.
6. The release switch assembly and the stoplamp switch assembly contacts must be open at 3.5 to 12.5 mm (1/8 to 1/2 in) brake pedal assembly travel. This is according to measurement at the centerline of the brake pedal assembly pad. Nominal actuation of the stoplamp switch assembly contacts is about 4.5 mm (3/16 in) after the cruise control switch assembly contacts close.
