A Important Preliminary Checks

Before using the Symptom tables, perform the following procedures:
^ Perform the A Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check and verify all of the following items:
- The PCM and Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) are operating correctly.
- DTCs are not stored.
- The scan tool data is within normal operating range. Refer to Scan Tool Data List.
^ Verify the customer complaint.
^ Perform the Visual/Physical Check. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
^ Locate the correct symptom in the list at the end of this system. Follow the procedures in the appropriate diagnostic table. If the problem can not be duplicated, refer to Intermittent Conditions. Intermittent Conditions
