P2135

DTC P0120, P0220, or P2135

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview)provide an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptors

DTC P0220
- Throttle Position (TP) Sensor 2 Circuit

DTC P2135
- Throttle Position (TP) Sensor 1-2 Correlation

Diagnostic Fault Information

Typical Scan Tool Data

Circuit/System Description

The throttle body assembly contains the following components:

* The throttle blade
* The throttle actuator motor
* The throttle position (TP) sensor 1 and 2
* The throttle actuator control (TAC) module

The TAC system monitors the throttle position with 2 sensors. If the powertrain control module (PCM) receives a message from the TAC module that indicates TP sensor 1 voltage is outside a predetermined range, DTC P0120 will set.

Conditions for Running the DTC

P0120 and P0220
* DTCs P0606, P2108, U0107 are not set.
* The system voltage is more than 5.23 volts.
* The ignition is in the Crank or Run position.
* DTCs P0120 and P0220 run continuously when the above conditions are met.

P2135
* The system voltage is more than 5.23 volts.
* The ignition is in the Crank or Run position.
* DTCs P0606, P2108, U0107 are not set.
* DTC P2135 runs continuously when the above conditions are met.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

P0120
* TP sensor 1 voltage is less than 0.376 volt or more than 4.506 volts.
* The PCM learns a minimum throttle position of more than 0.714 volt.
* The TP sensor reference voltage is less than 4.54 volts or more than 5.21 volts.

P0220
* The TP sensor 2 voltage is less than 0.282 volt or more than 4.6 volts.
* The PCM learns a minimum throttle position of more than 0.813 volt.
* The TP sensor reference voltage is less than 0.5 volt.

P2135
* The throttle position indicated by TP sensor 1 disagrees with the throttle position indicated by TP sensor 2 by more than 6 percent.
OR
* The PCM learned minimum throttle position of TP sensor 1 disagrees with the learned minimum throttle position of TP sensor 2.
OR
* The PCM detects that the TP sensor 1 signal circuit is shorted to the TP sensor 2 signal circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* DTCs P0120, P0220, and P2135 are Type A DTCs.
* The control module commands the TAC system to operate in the Reduced Engine Power mode.

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC

DTCs P0120, P0220, and P2135 are Type A DTCs.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Turn ON the ignition with your foot off the accelerator pedal. Observe the TP sensor 1 voltage parameter on the scan tool. The reading should be between 0.38-0.71 volt.
2. Ignition ON, observe the TP sensor 2 voltage parameter on the scan tool. The reading should be between 0.28-0.81 volt.
3. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool TP sensor 1 voltage parameter. The reading should be between 0.71-4.51 volts and change with accelerator pedal input.
4. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool TP sensor 2 voltage parameter. The reading should be between 0.81-4.60 volts and change with accelerator pedal input.
5. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool TP sensor 1 and 2 parameter. The scan tool should indicate Agree.
6. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

Circuit/System Testing

Replace the throttle body.

Repair Instructions
