Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning:
Refer to Exhaust Service Warning Exhaust Service Warning.


Warning:

Caution:
Refer to Exhaust Flexible Pipe Bending Caution Exhaust Flexible Pipe Bending Caution.

1. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement.





2. Remove the 3 three way catalytic converter nuts (1).

3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Standard) Service and Repair.

4. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement Catalytic Converter Replacement.

5. Remove the 2 three way catalytic converter nuts (3).

6. Remove the three way catalytic converter (4) and the gasket (5).

Installation Procedure





1. Loosen the 2 three way catalytic converter brace bracket bolts (2).

2. Install the three way catalytic converter (4) and a NEW gasket (5).

3. Install the 2 three way catalytic converter brace bracket bolts (2) and loosely tighten.

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

4. Install the 3 three way catalytic converter nuts (1) and tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb ft).

5. Tighten the 2 three way catalytic converter brace bracket bolts (2) to 58 Nm (43 lb ft).

6. Tighten the 2 three way catalytic converter nuts (3) to 28 Nm (21 lb ft).

7. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement Catalytic Converter Replacement.

8. Lower the vehicle.

9. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement.
