Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The liftgate control module (LGM) provides an output signal to the rear wiper motor for the purpose of disabling wiper motor operation whenever the liftglass or liftgate are open. The LGM receives inputs from the liftglass ajar switch and the sector, ratchet and pawl switches in the liftgate latch assembly to determine when an ajar condition exists. The rear wiper inhibit circuit is supplied 12 volts through a resistor and monitored within the wiper motor module. When an ajar condition exists, the LGM drives the rear wiper inhibit circuit low which the wiper motor module determines is an active inhibit signal.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Battery voltage must be between 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
* DTC B396F 06 will set when the LGM detects a short to ground or an open/high resistance in the liftgate ajar switch signal circuit.
* DTC B396F 0B will set when the LGM detects a short to voltage in the liftgate ajar switch signal circuit.
Actions Taken When the DTC Sets
* When a short to ground condition exists, the rear wiper motor will operate while the liftglass or liftgate are open.
* When an open or short to voltage condition exists, the rear wiper motor will not operate.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
* You issue a scan tool CLEAR DTCs command.
Diagnostic Aids
Whenever the LGM is disconnected or loses power, the ignition must be cycled OFF then ON.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the C1 harness connectors at the LGM.
2. Ignition ON, verify that B+ is present at the liftgate ajar switch signal circuit terminal 5.
• If B+ is not present, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the rear wiper motor.
3. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear wiper motor.
4. Ignition ON, verify that voltage is not present at the liftgate ajar switch signal circuit terminal 5 at the LGM C1 harness connector.
• If voltage is present, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage.
5. If all circuits test normal, replace the LGM.
Repair Instructions
