Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side (LY7 - Gas, 6 Cylinder, 3.6L, SFI, V6)

Tools Required

J 42640 Steering Column Anti-Rotation Pin


Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution (Service Precautions) .
Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution (Protective Goggles and Glove Warning) .





1. Install the J 42640 to the steering column. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement) for the tool installation instructions.




2. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.
3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
4. Remove the lower exhaust manifold heat shield bolt.
5. Disconnect the center intermediate shaft from the lower intermediate shaft to provide a removal envelope for the shield. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement) .
6. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.




7. Remove the upper exhaust manifold heat shield insulator from the oil level indicator tube, if necessary.




8. Remove the lower exhaust manifold heat shield insulator from the oil level indicator and exhaust gasket, if necessary.



Installation Procedure





1. Install the lower exhaust manifold heat shield insulator to the oil level indicator and exhaust gasket, if necessary.




2. Install the upper exhaust manifold heat shield insulator to the oil level indicator tube, if necessary.




3. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
4. Install but do not tighten the lower heat shield bolt.
5. Lower the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

6. Install the upper exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

7. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
8. Tighten the lower exhaust manifold heat shield bolt.

Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

9. Install the center intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft . Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement) .
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Remove the J 42640 .
