Battery Positive and Negative Cable Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the engine control module (ECM) from on top of the battery cover and set aside.
2. Detach the battery cover retaining tabs (1) and remove the battery cover (2).
3. Remove the ground body harness terminal on the negative battery clamp.
4. Disconnect the current sensor from the engine harness.
5. Remove the negative battery cable clamp (1) and the left front radiator support ground terminal (2).
6. Remove the battery positive fastener (2) from battery fuse block and detach the battery positive cable retainer from the battery tray.
7. Remove the battery negative ground fastener (1) and remove the battery negative terminal (2).
8. Remove the battery positive cable bracket retainer fastener (4) and bracket (3).
9. Remove the transmission mount fastener (6) holding the battery positive cable retainer (5) to the transmission mount.
10. Remove the battery positive cable retainer fastener (7).
11. Remove the starter heat shield fastener (1) and the starter heat shield (2).
12. Remove the starter solenoid fastener (5) and remove the battery positive cable terminal (6), from the starter solenoid.
13. Remove the generator fastener (3) and remove the battery positive cable terminal (4) from the back of the generator.
14. Remove the battery positive and negative cable from the vehicle.
15. Remove the battery positive and negative cable (6).
Note: Observe how the battery positive and negative cable was routed within the engine compartment.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the retainers that hold the battery cable harness to the battery tray.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
2. Install the battery positive and negative cable bracket retainer (3) to the engine block and tighten the fastener (4) to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
3. Install the battery negative cable ground terminal (2) to the engine block and tighten the fastener (1) to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
4. Install the battery positive cable retainer (5) to the transmission mount and tighten the fastener (6) to 62 Nm (46 lb ft).
5. Install the battery positive retainer fastener (7) and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
6. Install the positive battery cable terminal (6) to the starter solenoid and tighten the fastener (5) to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
7. Install the starter heat shield (2) and tighten the fastener (1) to 4 Nm (35 lb in).
8. Install the battery positive terminal (4) to the back of the generator and tighten the fastener (3) to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
9. Install the battery positive cable to the battery fuse block and tighten the fastener (2) to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
10. Install the battery negative ground terminal to the left front radiator support and tighten the fastener (2) to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
11. Install the battery post negative terminal clamp (1) and tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb ft).
12. Connect the current sensor to the engine harness.
13. Attach the body harness ground terminal to the negative clamp post.
14. Install the battery cover (2) to the battery tray with the retaining tabs (1).
15. Install the (ECM) onto the top of the battery cover.
