DTC 83
Wiring Diagram:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The BCM outputs 5 volts on CKT 853 to the brake fluid level sensor. The BCM determines the level of brake fluid by the voltage drop it detects across the sensor circuit. This information is delivered to the EBTCM via the serial data line.
TEST CONDITION(S)
1. Tested continuously.
FAILURE CONDITION(S)
1. While Standing or Driving: Brake fluid falls below acceptable level.
2. Brake fluid level sensor disconnected.
3. Open, short to ground or short to battery on CKT 853.
ACTION TAKEN
1. Code set.
2. ABS and TCS switched "OFF."
3. Red brake warning lamp ON.
4. ABS and TCS "DISABLED" messages ON.
TEST DESCRIPTION
Test numbers refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. Check the brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir.
2. Check brake fluid level as detected by BCM.
3. Brake fluid level not acceptable. Fill and recheck.
4. Brake fluid level as detected by BCM. See "DIAGNOSTIC AIDS."
5. Checks BCM input parameter BD80 with sensor disconnected for a short to ground in CKT 853, or bad sensor.
6. Checks BCM input parameter BD80 with sensor disconnected and connector shorted.
7. BCM detects acceptable brake fluid level. Problem not present.
8. Checks sensor resistor and checks for a short between CKTs 853 and 736.
9. Checks for open in CKT 853 and 736.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
BCM data parameter BD80 will display the following:
^ 3.6-5V - open in sensor circuit.
^ 1.5-3.5V - circuit OK. Problem not present.
^ 0-1.4V - short between CKT 853 and 736.
