Starter Motor: Service and Repair

Starter Motor Mounting:

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable at battery.
2. Positive battery cable at battery.
3. Intake manifold, refer to Engine / Intake Manifold / Service and Repair.
4. Solenoid "S" terminal nut and battery cable nut.
5. Starter motor mounting bolts.
6. Starter motor.
7. Solenoid "S" terminal nut.

NOTE: Before installing starter motor to engine, tighten inner nuts on solenoid terminals to be sure they are secure in cap. Tighten inner nuts on battery terminal and motor terminal to 8 Nm (70 in lb).

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Solenoid switch lead and tighten nut to 3 Nm (26 in lb).
2. Battery cable nut and tighten to 8 Nm (70 in lb).
3. Starter motor.
4. Starter motor mounting bolts and tighten to 30 Nm (22 ft lb).
5. Intake manifold.
6. Positive and then the negative battery cable, and tighten nuts to 15 Nm (11 ft lb).
