Console Replacement (UV8)

Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Cautions and Notices.





1. Disable the SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.
2. Set the parking brake.
3. Remove the console trim plate. Refer to Console Trim Plate Replacement (Console Trim Plate Replacement).
4. Remove the left console trim panel. Refer to Front Floor Console Side Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side (Front Floor Console Side Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side).
5. Remove the right console trim panel. Refer to Front Floor Console Side Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side (Front Floor Console Side Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side).
6. Disconnect the shifter cable from the shift lever pin and the shift bracket. Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement.
7. Disconnect the park lock cable from the shifter. Refer to Park Lock Cable Replacement (LHD).
8. Remove the storage bins or the CD changer as needed. Refer to Front Floor Console Compartment Replacement (Front Floor Console Compartment Replacement) or Remote CD Changer Replacement.




9. Disconnect the electrical connectors (1,2,3).




10. Remove the ashtray from the rear of the center console.
11. Remove the center console endcap screws (1, 2).
12. Remove the center console endcap (3).
13. Disconnect the Cellular phone coaxial cable.




14. Remove the console storage tray (2) from the console. Refer to Front Floor Console Storage Tray Replacement (Front Floor Console Storage Tray Replacement).




15. Remove the cover (1) from the floor of the storage bin.




16. Remove the 2 screws (2) from the console (1) to the lower instrument panel (IP).




17. Move both front seats to the rear in order to access the front console to floor bolts.
18. Remove the 2 bolts (1) that secure the metal bracket arms to the floor.
19. Remove the 2 nuts (2) from the console rear to the floor pan.
20. Lift up the rear of the console and disconnect the phone wiring.

Notice: When removing or installing the center console, do not allow the metal brackets to scrape the seats and damage the material.

21. Lift up the rear of the console and slide the console rearward.
22. Remove the center console from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure





1. Install the console tray (1).




2. Install the front floor console to the vehicle.
3. Route the cellular phone wiring to the center console.
4. Connect the coaxial cable to the coil cord.
5. Connect the interface card electrical connector.
6. Install the center console endcap.
7. Install the center console endcap screws (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

8. Tighten the screws to 1.6N.m(14 lb in).
9. Install the ashtray to the center console.





Notice: When removing or installing the center console, do not allow the metal brackets to scrape the seats and damage the material.

10. Lift up on the rear of the center console (1) and slide the console forward in order to align the front edges of the center console with the lower IP.
Place the rear of the console to the rear studs.
11. Connect the cellular phone wiring.
12. Install the 2 screws (2) through the center console (1) to lower IP.

Tighten the screws (2) to 2 N.m (18 lb in).





13. Install the nuts (2) to the floor studs in the center console compartment.

Tighten the nuts (2) to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

14. Install the bolts (1) to the metal bracket arms on the console.

Tighten the bolts (1) to 10 N.m (89 lb in).





15. Connect the electrical connectors (1,2,3) on both sides of the console.




16. Install the cover (1) to the floor of the storage bin.




17. Connect the shift cable to the shifter and the bracket. Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement.
18. Install the park lock cable to the shifter. Refer to Park Lock Cable Replacement (LHD).
19. Install the left console trim panel. Refer to Front Floor Console Side Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side (Front Floor Console Side Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side).
20. Install the right console trim panel. Refer to Front Floor Console Side Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side (Front Floor Console Side Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side).
21. Install the console trim plate. Refer to Console Trim Plate Replacement (Console Trim Plate Replacement).
22. Install the storage bins or the CD changer as needed. Refer to Front Floor Console Compartment Replacement (Front Floor Console Compartment Replacement) or Remote CD Changer Replacement.
23. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System.
