Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

Crankshaft Balancer Replacement

^ Tools Required
- J 45059 Angle Meter
- J 41816 Crankshaft Balancer Remover
- J 41998-B Crankshaft Balancer Installer
- J 44214 Flywheel Holder

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the drive belt.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the right front wheel.
4. Remove the front fascia extension from the wheelhouse.
5. Remove the brace between the engine oil pan and the transaxle case.
6. Remove the torque converter cover.





7. Install the J 44214 (1).
8. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.





9. Support the engine assembly with a suitable jack.
10. Remove the nut securing the right engine mount to the right engine mount bracket.
11. Lower the engine assembly to obtain clearance for the J 41816 below the body rail.





12. Place the remover pilot into the end of the crankshaft.
13. Remove the crankshaft balancer using the J 41816.
14. Clean and inspect the crankshaft balancer.

Installation Procedure





1. Position the crankshaft balancer on the nose of the crankshaft.





2. Press the crankshaft balancer in place using the J 41998-A.





3. Clean the crankshaft balancer bolt threads.
4. Apply engine oil to the crankshaft balancer bolt threads.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the crankshaft balancer bolt.
5.1. First Pass
Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
5.2. Final Pass
Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt an additional 120 degrees using the J 45059.





6. Raise the engine assembly into position.
7. Install the nut securing the right engine mount to the right engine mount bracket.
^ Tighten the right engine mount nut to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).
8. Remove the engine support jack.
9. Remove the J 44214.
10. Install the torque converter cover.





11. Install the oil pan to transaxle brace.
^ Tighten the oil pan to transaxle brace bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
12. Install the front fascia extension to the wheelhouse.
13. Install the right front wheel.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Install the drive belt.
