Camshaft Position Actuator Replacement - Bank 1 (Right Side) Exhaust

CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR REPLACEMENT - BANK 1 (RIGHT SIDE) EXHAUST

Special Tools: EN 46108 Timing Chain Retention Tool

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the upper intake manifold with the lower intake manifold. Service and Repair

2. Remove the camshaft cover. Camshaft Cover Replacement - Right

3. Remove the camshaft sensors. Service and Repair

4. Remove the intake camshaft position actuator solenoid. Removal and Replacement






Important: Rotate the crankshaft balancer in a clockwise rotation ONLY.

5. Rotate the crankshaft using the crankshaft balancer bolt until the camshafts are in a neutral (low tension) position. The camshaft flats will be parallel with the camshaft cover rail (1).

Notice: A wrench must be used on the hex of the camshaft when loosening or tightening in order to prevent component damage. Failure to prevent the torque reaction against the timing drive chain can lead to timing drive chain failure.






Important:
• Use an open-end wrench at the camshaft hex to prevent camshaft/engine rotation.
• DO NOT remove the camshaft position actuator bolt at this time.

6. Loosen the camshaft position actuator bolt.

Important: Ensure that the tips of the EN 46108 are fully engaged into the timing chain (3 and 4).






7. Install the EN 46108 (1 and 2) in order to retain the timing chain. Firmly tighten the EN 46108 nuts.






Important: Ensure that the camshaft timing chain and the camshaft position actuators are marked for proper assembly.

8. Mark the timing chain and the respective locations on camshaft position actuators (15-18).

9. Remove the right exhaust camshaft position actuator bolt.






10. Remove the right exhaust camshaft actuator.

Installation Procedure






1. Ensure the proper camshaft position actuator is installed. Observe the body of the camshaft position actuator for the EX marking (1). The marking is for the exhaust camshaft position actuator.






Important:
• Ensure that the marks on the camshaft position actuators and the timing chain (15-18) are aligned.
• DO NOT tighten the camshaft position actuator bolt at this time.

2. Assemble the camshaft actuator to the camshaft.

3. Loosely install the camshaft actuator bolt.

4. Remove the EN 46108.

Notice: A wrench must be used on the hex of the camshaft when loosening or tightening in order to prevent component damage. Failure to prevent the torque reaction against the timing drive chain can lead to timing drive chain failure.

5. Tighten the camshaft position actuator. 110. Camshaft Position (CMP) Actuator Installation - Right Exhaust

6. Install the intake camshaft position actuator solenoid.

7. Install the camshaft sensors.

8. Install the camshaft cover.

9. Install the upper intake manifold with the lower intake manifold.
