Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution (Service Precautions) .
Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution (Protective Goggles and Glove Warning) .
1. Remove the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement) .
2. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield upper bolts.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
4. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield lower bolt.
5. Disconnect the center intermediate shaft from the lower intermediate shaft to provide a removal envelope for the shield. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement) .
6. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.
7. Remove the upper exhaust manifold heat shield insulator from the oil level indicator tube, if necessary.
8. Remove the lower exhaust manifold heat shield insulator from the oil level indicator and exhaust gasket, if necessary.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the lower exhaust manifold heat shield insulator to the oil level indicator and exhaust gasket, if necessary.
2. Install the upper exhaust manifold heat shield insulator to the oil level indicator tube, if necessary.
3. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
4. Install but do not tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield lower bolt.
5. Lower the vehicle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .
6. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield upper bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
8. Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield lower bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
9. Install the center intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft. Refer to Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement) .
10. Lower the vehicle.
