DTC B3657

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

DTC Descriptor
DTC B3657 00
- Valet Mode Switch Circuit

Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

As a security measure, a valet switch in the glove compartment is used to disable the rear compartment release system. When the switch is activated and the glove compartment locked, it will prevent unauthorized access to the rear compartment. The body control module (BCM) monitors the valet mode switch signal circuit and when the switch is activated, the BCM detects the drop in voltage and will disable the rear compartment release system.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The system voltage is 9-18 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

When the BCM detects a short to voltage or a short to ground in the valet mode switch signal circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The BCM will disable the rear compartment release system.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
* The history DTC clears after 40 malfunction-free warm-up cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Valet Switch parameter while pressing the top and bottom of the valet switch. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the valet switch.
2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm between the ground circuit terminal A and ground.

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Valet Switch parameter is Inactive.

If not the specified parameter, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal B and the ground circuit terminal A. Verify the scan tool Valet Switch parameter is Active.

If not the specified parameter, test the signal circuit terminal B for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the valet switch.

Component Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the valet switch.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal B and the ground terminal A with the switch in the open position.

If not the specified value, replace the valet switch.

3. Test for less than 2.0 ohms between the signal terminal B and the ground terminal A with the switch in the closed position.

If greater than the specified range, replace the valet switch.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
