DTC Descriptors
DTC B3160 02
- Window Up Switch Circuit Short to Ground

DTC B3165 02
- Window Down Switch Circuit Short to Ground

Circuit/System Description

The individual power window switches are monitored and controlled by the front and rear door modules. Each passenger door window switch is mounted to the trim panel of the appropriate passenger door. When a passenger window switch is operated, the switch contacts close and the associated door control module detects ground as a specific request to move the window up or down. If conditions are correct for window operation to occur, the door control module communicates the up/down command to the power window motor and the power window motor moves the window to the desired position.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* The PDM, LRDM, or RRDM must be powered.
* DTC B1325 Battery Voltage Out of Range, must not be current.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The PDM, LRDM, or RRDM detects that the window switch has been closed for 30 continuous seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* When DTC B3160 02 is current, the appropriate door module will ignore actuation of the WINDOW UP and WINDOW DOWN inputs.
* When DTC B3165 02 is current, the appropriate door module will ignore actuation of the WINDOW DOWN input.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The door control module does not detect the failure for 6 consecutive seconds.
* You issue a scan tool CLEAR DTCs command.
* A history DTC will clear once 40 consecutive malfunction free ignition cycles have occurred.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the inoperative passenger window switch.
2. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool passenger window switch parameter is IDLE.

If not the specified value, test the appropriate power window switch signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuits tests normal, replace the appropriate door control module.

3. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the inoperative passenger window switch.
