Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution (Brake Fluid Irritant Caution) .
Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice (Vehicle Damage Warnings) .
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
2. Remove the master cylinder assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement (LHD) (Master Cylinder Replacement (LHD))Master Cylinder Replacement (RHD) (Master Cylinder Replacement (RHD)) .
3. Using a suitable drift from the inboard side of the master cylinder, carefully drive out the secondary reservoir retaining pin (1).
4. Using a suitable drift from the outboard side of the master cylinder, carefully drive out the primary reservoir retaining pin (1).
5. Remove the master cylinder reservoir (1).
6. Remove the secondary master cylinder reservoir seal (1).
7. Remove the primary master cylinder reservoir seal (2).
8. If installing a new master cylinder reservoir, remove the master cylinder fluid level sensor. Refer to Brake Fluid Level Indicator Switch Replacement (Service and Repair) .
Installation Procedure
1. If installing a new master cylinder reservoir, install the master cylinder fluid level sensor. Refer to Brake Fluid Level Indicator Switch Replacement (Service and Repair) .
2. If installing the original master cylinder reservoir, clean the master cylinder reservoir with denatured alcohol and dry with filtered, non-lubricated compressed air.
3. Install the secondary master cylinder reservoir seal (1) to the master cylinder reservoir.
Lubricate the seal with Delco Supreme 11(R), GM P/N 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667), or equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container
4. Install the primary master cylinder reservoir seal (2) to the master cylinder reservoir.
Lubricate the seal with Delco Supreme 11(R), GM P/N 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667), or equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed brake fluid container.
5. Install the master cylinder reservoir (1).
Carefully press the master cylinder reservoir into the master cylinder body until the pin holes are aligned.
6. Using a suitable drift from the inboard side of the master cylinder, carefully drive in the primary reservoir retaining pin (1).
7. Using a suitable drift from the outboard side of the master cylinder, carefully drive in the secondary reservoir retaining pin (1).
8. Install the master cylinder assembly. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement (LHD) (Master Cylinder Replacement (LHD))Master Cylinder Replacement (RHD) (Master Cylinder Replacement (RHD)) .
