Installation Procedure
Important: All gasket surfaces should be free of oil or other foreign material during assembly.
The alignment of the structural oil pan is critical. The rear bolt hole locations of the oil pan provide mounting points for the flywheel housing cover. To ensure the rigidity of the powertrain it is important that the rear of the block and the rear of the oil pan are flush or even. The rear of the oil pan must NEVER protrude beyond the engine block .
1. Use a new oil pan gasket. It is not necessary to rivet the new oil pan gasket to the oil pan.
2. Position the oil pan to the lower crankcase.
3. The oil pan must be held flush to 0.50 mm (0.020 in) forward of the rear face of the engine block (1).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .
4. Install the oil pan bolts in the sequence shown.
* First Pass-Tighten the oil pan bolts to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
* Final Pass-Tighten the oil pan bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
5. Install the oil drain plug.
Tighten the oil drain plug to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
Notice: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice (Component Fastener Tightening Notice) .
6. Install the engine oil level sensor into the oil pan.
Tighten the engine oil level sensor to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
7. Connect the electrical connector to the engine oil level sensor.
8. Install the automatic transmission fluid cooler line mounting clips. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Lower Pipe Assembly Replacement - Transmission to Auxiliary Cooler (Service and Repair) .
9. Install a NEW engine oil filter.
Tighten the engine oil filter to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
10. Install the front suspension crossmember to the vehicle. Refer to Front Suspension Crossmember Replacement () .
11. Fill the crankcase with the proper quantity and grade of engine oil. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities (Specifications) and Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations (Service Intervals) .
12. Run the engine and check for leaks.
