Folding Top Compartment Lid Strut Actuator Replacement - Rear

Removal Procedure




1. Place the folding top in the up position.
2. Open the rear compartment.




3. Lower the rear compartment partition (1).
4. Place a protective covering over the rear compartment interior and the adjacent body panels.
5. Remove the side compartment trim. Refer to Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Left Side (Service and Repair) or Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Right Side (Service and Repair).




6. Slightly pull down on the rear compartment lid and remove the travel limit screw (1) from the link.
7. Support the rear compartment lid.





Caution: Apply pressure only at the end of the strut actuator that you are removing or attaching. DO NOT apply pressure to the middle of the rod because damage or bending will result.

8. Use a small flat-bladed tool to lift up on the retainer clip on the link side of the strut actuator.
9. While pushing up on the rear compartment lid, remove the strut actuator (2) from the ball joint (1) on the link.




10. Use a small flat-bladed tool to lift up the retainer clip on the folding top support bracket side of the strut actuator.
11. Remove the strut actuator (1) from the ball joint (2) on the folding top support bracket.
12. Remove the strut actuator from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the strut actuator (1) to the ball joint (2) on the folding top support bracket.




2. Slightly pull down on the rear compartment lid and install the strut actuator (2) to the ball joint (1) on the link.
3. Remove the support from the rear compartment lid.




4. Apply LOCTITE(TM) Blue, GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent to the bolts.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

5. While pushing up on the rear compartment lid, install the travel limit screw (1) to the link and tighten to 4 Nm (35 lb in).
6. Install the side compartment trim. Refer to Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Left Side (Service and Repair) or Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Right Side (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the protective covering.




8. Raise the rear compartment partition (1)
9. Close the rear compartment.
