Installation Procedure

Note: All gasket surfaces should be free of oil or other foreign material during assembly.

The alignment of the structural oil pan is critical. The rear bolt hole locations of the oil pan provide mounting points for the flywheel housing cover. To ensure the rigidity of the powertrain it is important that the rear of the block and the rear of the oil pan are flush or even. The rear of the oil pan must NEVER protrude beyond the engine block.

1. Install a new oil pan gasket on the oil manifold plate.

2. Position the oil pan to the crankcase.
3. The oil pan must be held flush to 0.50 mm (0.020 in) forward of the rear face of the engine block.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

4. Install the oil pan retaining bolts.

* First Pass: Tighten the oil pan bolts to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
* Final Pass: Tighten the oil pan bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).

5. Install the oil drain plug and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).

Caution: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution (Component Fastener Tightening Caution).

6. Install the engine oil level sensor (1) into the oil pan and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
7. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the engine oil level sensor (1).

8. Install the automatic transmission fluid cooler lines.
9. Install a NEW engine oil filter and tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).
10. Install the front suspension crossmember to the vehicle. Refer to Front Suspension Crossmember Replacement ().
11. Fill the crankcase with the proper quantity and grade of engine oil. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities (Service Intervals) and Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations (Service Intervals).
12. Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check (Transmission Fluid Check).
13. Run the engine and check for leaks.
