Front Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement (J55)

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the brake caliper from the mounting bracket and support the brake caliper (2) with heavy mechanic's wire (1), or equivalent. Do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement (J55) (Front Brake Caliper Replacement (J55))Front Brake Caliper Replacement (JL9) (Front Brake Caliper Replacement (JL9)).
2. Remove the brake pads from the brake caliper bracket.
3. Remove the brake pad retainers from the brake caliper bracket.




4. Remove the brake caliper bracket bolt (1).
5. Remove the brake caliper bracket from the steering knuckle assembly.
6. Use a wire brush to clean any debris or rust from the brake caliper bracket.




7. Inspect the caliper mounting bracket for cracks or damage. Refer to Brake Caliper Inspection (Testing and Inspection).
8. Replace the brake caliper bracket if cracked or damaged.

Installation Procedure

Note: The brake caliper bracket bolts threads and the threaded holes of the brake caliper bracket must be free of residue and debris prior to reapplication of threadlocker in order to ensure proper adhesion and fastener retention.

* Prepare the bolts and the threaded holes for assembly:

* Thoroughly clean the residue from the bolt threads by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
* Thoroughly clean the residue from the threaded holes by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.

* Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent to two-thirds of the threaded length of the lower caliper bracket bolts. Ensure that there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the bolts.
* Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately ten minutes before installation.




1. Install the caliper bracket to the steering knuckle assembly.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the brake caliper bracket bolt.

Tighten the caliper bracket bolt to 246 Nm (181 lb ft).

3. Apply a thin coat of high temperature silicone lube to the brake caliper pin bolts.
4. Install the brake pad retainers to the brake caliper bracket.
5. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper bracket.
6. Install the caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement (J55) (Front Brake Caliper Replacement (J55))Front Brake Caliper Replacement (JL9) (Front Brake Caliper Replacement (JL9)).
