Strut Assembly Replacement (FE1, FE3)
Removal Procedure
Caution: Use care when handling the coil springs in order to avoid chipping or scratching the coating. Damage to the coating will result in premature failure of the coil springs.
1. Remove the upper strut mounting bolts.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
4. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor wiring harness.
5. Remove the wheel speed sensor bracket from the strut.
6. Remove the brake line bracket mounting bolt and bracket from the strut.
7. Remove the strut to steering knuckle bolts and nuts.
8. Remove the strut from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Lower the vehicle.
2. Install the strut to the vehicle.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
3. Install the upper strut mounting bolts.
Tighten the upper strut mounting bolts to 60 Nm (44 lb ft).
4. Raise the vehicle.
5. Install new strut to steering knuckle bolts and nuts.
Tighten the strut to steering knuckle bolts and nuts to 147 Nm (108 lb ft).
6. Install the brake line bracket and mounting bolt to the strut.
Tighten the bolts and nuts to 23 Nm (17 lb ft).
7. Install the wheel speed sensor bracket and mounting bolt to strut.
Tighten the bolt to 17 Nm (13 lb ft).
8. Install the wheel speed sensor bracket to strut.
9. Install the wheel speed sensor wiring harness to the bracket.
10. Install the wheel and tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
11. Lower the vehicle.
