DTC C0899

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Strategy Based Diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Diagnostic Procedure Instructions) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor
DTC C0899
- Device Voltage Low

Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) monitors the system voltage level available for ABS operation. A low voltage condition prevents the ABS system from operating properly.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

This fault will be set if the system voltage to EBCM is less than 9 V for 100 msec.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Traction Control System (TCS) are disabled for the duration of the ignition cycle.
* The ABS and TCS indicators illuminates on the IPC.
* The DIC displays the Service Stability System message, if equipped.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
* The EBCM automatically clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Engine running, measure and record the voltage at the battery terminals.
2. Verify that the battery voltage is 12.6-15.5 V.

If the battery voltage is not within the specified range, refer to Charging System Test (Charging System Test).

3. Engine running, observe the scan tool EBCM battery positive voltage parameter. The reading should be between 12.6 and 15.5 V.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.
2. Ignition OFF and scan tool disconnected, open and close the driver door, and wait 1 minute. Test for less than 5 Ohms between the ground circuit terminals listed below and ground:

* Terminal E
* Terminal F
* Terminal 13 (JL7)
* Terminal 38 (JL7)

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuits for an open/high resistance.

3. Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the B+ / IGN circuits terminals listed below and ground.

* B+ terminal A
* B+ terminal B
* IGN terminal C
* B+ terminal 13 (JL7)
* B+ terminal 38 (JL7)

If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the affected B+ / IGN circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.

4. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
