A Important Preliminary Checks

Before using the Symptom tables:
^ Perform A Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check and verify all of the following items:
^ The PCM and Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) are operating correctly.
^ There are no DTCs stored.
^ Scan tool data is within normal operating range. Refer to Scan Tool Data List. Scan Tool Data, Normal Values and Definitions
^ Verify the customer complaint.
^ Perform the Visual/Physical check. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Locate the correct symptom in the list at the end of this section. Follow the procedures in the appropriate diagnostic table. If the problem can not be duplicated, also refer to Intermittent Conditions. Intermittent Conditions
