Oil Pan: Service and Repair



Oil Pan Replacement

Removal Procedure





Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution (Battery Disconnect Caution).
Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution (Safety Glasses Warning).

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the right front splash shield.
4. Drain the engine oil from the engine crankcase.
5. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
6. Remove the catalytic lower flange nuts from the exhaust manifold and remover the bolts at the bracket.





7. Remove the nuts that secure the front pipe.
8. Remove the catalytic converter and the exhaust pipe as a unit.





9. Remove the bolts that secure the oil pan to the transaxle housing.





10. Remove the bolt that secures the transaxle housing to the oil pan.





11. Remove the grommet.
12. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts.
13. Remove the oil pan from the engine block.
14. Remove the gasket from the oil pan.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the gasket to the oil pan.

Important: Install the oil pan within 5 minutes after applying the liquid gasket to the oil pan.

2. Install the oil pan to the engine block.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice).

3. Install the oil pan retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

4. Discard the used oil pan drain plug washer and replace it with a new one.

Tighten
Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 35 Nm (26 lb ft).

5. Install the grommet.





6. Install the bolt that secures the transaxle housing to the oil pan.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).





7. Install the bolts that secure the oil pan to the transaxle housing.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).





8. Install the catalytic converters and the exhaust pipe as a unit.

Tighten
* Tighten the nuts that secure the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
* Tighten the exhaust pipe bracket bolts to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
* Tighten the front muffler nuts to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).





9. Connect the HO2S.
10. Install the right front splash shield.
11. Install the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
12. Connect the negative battery cable.
13. Refill the engine crankcase with engine oil.
