Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the exhaust muffler intermediate heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Intermediate Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Muffler Intermediate Heat Shield Replacement).
3. Remove the fuel tank heat shield. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement (Removal and Replacement).





Note: The rear park brake cables are replaced as an assembly.

4. Pull the rear park brake cable equalizer (1) forward and disengage the front park brake cable from the equalizer.
5. Release the rear park brake cable ferrules (2) from the retaining bracket.
Push the cable ferrules rearward to release.




6. Release the rear park brake cables from the 2 retainers (1) on the fuel tank.




7. Release the rear park brake cables from the retainer (1) on each side of the rear suspension cradle.




8. Disconnect the rear park brake cable eyes (1) from the park brake actuators.
9. Release the rear park brake cable ferrules (2) from the suspension knuckles.
Push the cable ferrules forward to release.
10. Remove the rear park brake cable assembly.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the rear park brake cable assembly.
2. Connect the rear park brake cable eyes (1) to the park brake actuators.
3. Install the rear park brake cable ferrules (2) to the suspension knuckles.
Seat the cable ferrules fully in suspension knuckles.




4. Install the rear park brake cables to the retainer (1) on each side of the rear suspension cradle.




5. Install the rear park brake cables to the 2 retainers (1) on the fuel tank.





Note: The rear park brake cables are replaced as an assembly.

6. Pull the rear park brake cable equalizer (1) forward and connect the front park brake cable to the equalizer.
7. Install the rear park brake cable ferrules (2) to the retaining bracket.
Seat the cable ferrules fully in the retaining bracket.
8. Install the fuel tank heat shield. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement (Removal and Replacement).
9. Install the exhaust muffler intermediate heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Intermediate Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Muffler Intermediate Heat Shield Replacement).
10. Apply and release the park brake lever 2-3 times to set the park brake cable tension and inspect for proper operation.
