Removal Procedure Quick Connect Fitting Type 1
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief (Service and Repair).
2. Slide the dust cover from the quick-connect fitting if a dust cover is fitted.
3. Clean any grime from the metal collar quick connect fitting.
4. Detach the metal collar quick connect fitting verifier clip (1).
5. Choose the correct special tool and install the special tool onto the male connector pipe (4).
6. Apply suitable pressure and push the special tool into the female connector (2) to release the retaining tabs.
7. Pull the female connector pipe (1) away from the male connector pipe (4).
8. Remove the special tool from the metal collar quick connect fitting.
Caution: If necessary, remove rust or burrs from the fuel pipes with an emery cloth. Use a radial motion with the fuel pipe end in order to prevent damage to the O-ring sealing surface. Use a clean shop towel in order to wipe off the male tube ends. Inspect all the connections for dirt and burrs. Clean or replace the components and assemblies as required.
9. Clean the metal collar quick connect fittings using a clean shop towel.
10. Inspect the metal collar quick connect fittings for damage. Replace any damaged metal collar quick connect fittings.
Installation Procedure Quick Connect Fitting Type 1
Warning
Always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male pipe ends before connecting the fuel pipe fittings in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.
1. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the metal collar quick connect fitting.
Note: Apply suitable pressure to both ends of the metal collar quick connect fitting to make sure that the retaining tabs snap into place.
Note: Listen for an audible click to confirm the correct installation of the metal collar quick connect fitting.
2. Connect the metal collar quick connect fittings (2).
3. Install the metal collar quick connect fitting verifier clip (1).
4. Slide the dust cover into position if fitted.
Removal Procedure Quick Connect Fitting Type 2
1. Detach the verifier cap (2) by pulling the verifier cap back along the male connector pipe (1).
2. Install the quick connect release tool J 41623-B (1) onto the male connector pipe (3).
3. Apply suitable pressure while pushing and turning the quick connect release tool J 41623-B into the female connector (4) to release the retaining tabs.
4. Pull the male connector pipe (3) away from the female connector (4).
5. Remove the quick connect release tool J 41623-B from the male connector pipe (3).

7. Remove the quick connect retainer if required.
8. Inspect the metal collar quick connect fittings for damage. Replace any damaged metal collar quick connect fitting components.
Installation Procedure Quick Connect Fitting Type 2
Note: The new quick connect retainer should align with the three slots of the quick connect fitting.
1. If required, install a new quick connect retainer by rotating the new quick connect retainer around the fitting until the new quick connect retainer is seated correctly.

Note: To Instal the metal collar quick connect fitting verifier cap (2), slide the metal collar quick connect fitting verifier cap (2) along the pipe.
4. Install the metal collar quick connect fitting verifier cap (2) to the metal collar quick connect fitting (3).
