Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
Exhaust Manifold Replacement (LAP)
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the intake manifold cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (Intake Manifold Cover Replacement).
2. If equipped with RPO NU3, remove the secondary air injection (AIR) check valve. Refer to Secondary Air Injection Check Valve Pipe Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement).
4. Remove the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1).
5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the catalytic converter assembly. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (LNF) (Service and Repair)Catalytic Converter Replacement (LAP) (Service and Repair).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Remove the exhaust manifold nuts.
9. Remove the exhaust manifold and discard the exhaust manifold gasket.
10. Clean and inspect all gasket mating surfaces.
Installation Procedure
1. Install a NEW exhaust manifold gasket onto the studs.
2. Install the exhaust manifold to the engine.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
3. Install NEW exhaust manifold nuts and tighten to 14 Nm (10 lb ft).
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Install the catalytic converter assembly. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (LNF) (Service and Repair)Catalytic Converter Replacement (LAP) (Service and Repair).
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Install the heated oxygen sensor HO2S. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1).
8. If equipped with RPO NU3, install the AIR check valve. Refer to Secondary Air Injection Check Valve Pipe Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Install the intake manifold cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (Intake Manifold Cover Replacement).
10. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks.
