Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side (LS3)

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the engine sight cover Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (LS9) (Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement)Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (w/o LS9) (Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement).
2. Remove the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the bank 2, sensor 1 oxygen sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 1 (Service and Repair).
4. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the catalytic convertor.





Note: In the following service procedure, it may be necessary to remove the heat shield from the exhaust manifold.

6. Remove the mounting nuts for the exhaust manifold.
7. Remove the exhaust manifold and gasket.

Installation Procedure

Note: Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts as specified in the service procedure. Improperly installed and/or leaking exhaust manifold gaskets may affect vehicle emissions and/or On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) II system performance.

The cylinder head exhaust manifold bolt hole threads must be clean and free of debris or threadlocking material.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

1. If necessary, install the exhaust manifold heat shield and bolts and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).

Note: In the following service procedure, DO NOT tighten the exhaust clamp. Leave it loosened so that the exhaust manifold and gasket can be aligned on the cylinder head.

2. Install the catalytic convertor to the intermediate pipe.





Note: Use one or two bolts to hold the manifold and gasket in place.

3. Install the exhaust manifold and gasket.
4. Apply a 5 mm (0.2 in) wide band of threadlock GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent to the threads of the exhaust manifold bolts.
5. Install the exhaust manifold bolts using the following sequence:

Note: Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts beginning with the center 2 bolts. Alternate from side-to-side, working toward the outside bolts.

1. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts a first pass to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).

Note: Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts beginning with the center 2 bolts. Alternate from side-to-side, working toward the outside bolts.

2. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts a final pass to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).

6. Install the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Install the engine sight cover Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (LS9) (Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement)Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (w/o LS9) (Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement).
8. Install the bank 2, sensor 1 oxygen sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 1 (Service and Repair).
9. Install the catalytic convertor to the exhaust manifold nuts.
