Engine Oil: Service and Repair
Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (6.2L LS9 and 7.0L LS7)
Removal Procedure
1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the oil fill cap (2).
3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
Note: 6.2L LS9 shown, 7.0L LS7 similar
4. Remove both oil pan drain plugs (1).
5. Drain the engine oil into an appropriate container.

6. Remove the engine oil filter (1).
Installation Procedure
Caution: This engine uses a special high performance oil filter. Use of any other filter may lead to filter failure and/or severe engine damage.
Note: Before installing the new oil filter, ensure that the old oil filter seal has been removed. If not, remove the old seal.
1. Lubricate the NEW oil filter seal with clean engine oil.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the oil filter (1) and tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).
Use oil filter UPF48R or equivalent.

3. Install both oil pan drain plugs (1) and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
4. Lower the vehicle.
Note: DO NOT use any engine oil additives in Corvette engines.
5. Add 10.0 liters (10.5 quarts) of oil to the dry sump tank. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations (USA and Canada) (Maintenance) for engine oil requirements.
6. Check the oil level.
7. Install the oil fill cap (2).
8. Start the engine, check for leaks and correct.
9. Shut the engine off, wait 2-5 minutes and check the oil level using the oil level indicator (1).
Add oil if needed to bring the oil level to the full mark.
10. Close the hood.
11. Reset the engine oil life system. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting (Service and Repair).
