Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement

J 33432-A - Leaf Spring Compressor

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Disconnect the suspension position sensor link, if equipped from the control arm link stud. Refer to Electronic Suspension Rear Position Sensor Replacement (ZR1) (Electronic Suspension Rear Position Sensor Replacement) Electronic Suspension Rear Position Sensor Replacement (Without ZR1) (Electronic Suspension Rear Position Sensor Replacement)





Note: During this procedure, use care not to scratch the transverse spring.

4. Using the J 33432-A - compressor, compress the transverse spring.
5. Disconnect the shock absorber from the lower control arm. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (Rear Suspension Shock Absorber).
6. Separate the lower control arm from the rear knuckle. Refer to Knuckle Replacement (Rear Suspension).
7. Remove the stabilizer link from the lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (Rear Suspension).




8. Support the lower control arm with a jackstand.
9. Mark the position of, and then remove the cam bolts, washers, and nuts retaining the control arm to the crossmember.
10. Remove the jack stand from under the lower control arm.
11. Remove the lower control arm from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





Caution: Do not remove the transverse leaf spring compressor tool until after the shock absorber has been installed. The pad on the transverse leaf spring bolt could move out of position resulting in damage to the pad or a rattle in the suspension.

1. Install the lower control arm to the vehicle.
2. Support the lower control arm with a jack stand.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

Note: Place the cam bolts at the position marked during removal.

3. Install the lower control arm front cam bolt and tighten to 170 Nm (125 lb ft) , washers, and nuts retaining the lower control arm to crossmember.
4. Install the lower control arm rear cam bolt and tighten to 60 Nm (44 lb ft) plus 60 degrees.
5. Install the lower control arm ball joint stud into the suspension knuckle. Refer to Knuckle Replacement (Rear Suspension)
6. Install the stabilizer shaft link to the control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (Rear Suspension).
7. Install the shock absorber to the lower control arm. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (Rear Suspension Shock Absorber).





Note: During this procedure, use care not to scratch the transverse spring.

8. Remove the J 33432-A - compressor, compress the transverse spring.
9. Remove the jackstand.
10. Release and remove J 33432-A - compressor from the transverse spring.
11. Align the rear suspension.

* To adjust the rear camber, refer to Rear Camber Adjustment (Rear Camber Adjustment).
* To adjust the rear toe, refer to Rear Toe Adjustment (Rear Toe Adjustment).
