Transmission Adaptive Learn

Warning

Road test a vehicle under safe conditions and while obeying all traffic laws. Do not attempt any maneuvers that could jeopardize vehicle control. Failure to adhere to these precautions could lead to serious personal injury and vehicle damage.

The purpose of the transmission adaptive learn procedure is to improve the shift quality.

Perform the transmission adaptive learn procedure after any of the following service procedures:

* Transmission Control Module (TCM) replacement
* TCM calibration change
* Control valve body replacement
* Transmission overhaul
* Transmission replacement

1. Drive the vehicle to warm the transmission fluid until 50-110°C (122-230°F). The adaptive learn procedure will not work unless the transmission fluid is the correct temperature.

Note: Do not make the stall test to rise up the transmission fluid temperature.

2. Perform the following steps for the adaptation of the upshifting.

1. Perform the 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 gear upshift in drive (D) with each throttle opening.

Note: Throttle opening learning condition is 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%.

2. Repeat the above step five times.

3. Perform the following steps for the adaptation of the 3-4 shifting.

1. Perform the 3-4 gear upshift in drive (D) with each throttle opening.

Note: Throttle opening learning condition is 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%.

2. Repeat the above step five times.

4. Perform the following steps for the adaptation of the 4-3 shifting.

1. Accelerate in drive (D) until 4th gear.
2. Perform the 4-3 kick down with each vehicle speed.

Note: Vehicle speed learning condition is :

* 20-55 km/h (12-34 MPH)
* 55-70 km/h (34-43 MPH)
* 70-90 km/h (43-56 MPH)
* 90-125 km/h (56-78 MPH)
* more than 125 km/h (78 MPH)

4. Repeat the above steps five times

Note: Do not hit the accelerator.

5. Confirm that the shift quality has been improved.
