Transmission Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust Muffler with Resonator, Exhaust, and Tail Pipe Replacement (Vehicle Service) (Exhaust Muffler With Resonator, Exhaust, and Tail Pipe Replacement (Vehicle Service)).
3. Remove both front catalytic converters. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LLT) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side)Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (L99/LS3) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side) and Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LLT) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side)Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (L99/LS3) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side).
4. Remove the propeller shaft from the vehicle. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement).
5. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
6. Remove the transmission support. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement (Aisin AY6 - Manual Transmission).
7. Lower the transmission assembly to gain access to the top of the transmission.
8. Disconnect the shift control assembly from the transmission. Refer to Shift Control Assembly Replacement (Shift Control Assembly Replacement).
9. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:

* Transmission fluid temperature (TFT) sensor
* Backup lamp switch
* Vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
* Reverse lockout solenoid
* Gear select/skip shift solenoid

10. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic hose.




11. Remove the transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1, 4).
12. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the transmission to the vehicle.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the transmission clutch housing to engine bolts and studs (1, 4) and tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
3. Connect the clutch hydraulic hose to the transmission.
4. Raise the transmission back into place.
5. Connect the shift control assembly to the transmission. Refer to Shift Control Assembly Replacement (Shift Control Assembly Replacement).
6. Connect the following electrical connectors:

* TFT sensor
* Backup lamp switch
* Vehicle Speed Sensor
* Reverse lockout solenoid
* Gear select/skip shift solenoid

Caution: Care should be taken when raising the transmission so that the shifter boot does not get damaged.

7. Raise the transmission assembly.
8. Install the transmission support. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement (Aisin AY6 - Manual Transmission).
9. Remove the transmission jack.
10. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement).
11. Check the transmission fluid and fill as necessary.
12. Install both front catalytic converters. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LLT) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side)Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (L99/LS3) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side) and Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LLT) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side)Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (L99/LS3) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side).
13. Install the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust Muffler with Resonator, Exhaust, and Tail Pipe Replacement (Vehicle Service) (Exhaust Muffler With Resonator, Exhaust, and Tail Pipe Replacement (Vehicle Service)).
14. Lower the vehicle.
