DTC Descriptor
DTC B1001
- SDM Option Configuration Error
Circuit/System Description
The Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module stores the vehicles restraint ID from the vehicle identification number (VIN) and the last 4 digits of the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module part number. When the ignition is turned ON, the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module compares this information to the information stored in the body control module (BCM) over the serial data communication circuit. If there is a mismatch between the information stored in the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module and BCM, DTC B1001 will set.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
* The last 4 digits of the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module part number does not match the last 4 digits stored in the BCM.
* The VIN stored in the BCM does not match that of the vehicle.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* The Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module requests the Instrument Cluster to illuminate the AIR BAG indicator.
* The Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module disables all deployments.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The last 4 digits of the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module part number match the last 4 digits stored in the BCM.
* The restraints ID that is stored in the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module matches the restraints ID that is stored in the BCM.
Diagnostic Aids
This DTC is an indication that an incorrect Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module is installed in the vehicle, or that the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module and/or the BCM were replaced without reprogramming the BCM with the new information.

Circuit/System Testing
1. With a scan tool, verify the BCM is programmed with the correct VIN number displayed on the vehicle VIN plate.
• If the BCM has the wrong VIN number, perform the Setup Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Part Number into BCM procedure.
2. Verify DTC B1001 is not set.
• If DTC B1001 is set, replace the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module.
Repair Instructions
