Fuel Line Replacement - Engine

Special Tools

* J 34730-1A - Fuel Pressure Gauge

* J 37088-A - Fuel Line Disconnect Tool Set

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning Service Precautions.


Caution:

* Do not repair the fuel feed or return pipes.

* Replace the fuel feed and return pipes with original equipment or with parts that meet the GM specifications for those parts. The replacement pipe must have the same type of fittings as the original pipe in order to ensure the integrity of the connection.

1. Remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (LS9) Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield ReplacementUpper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (w/o LS9) Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LS7 or LS9) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and ConnectionBattery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LS3) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

3. Remove the left fuel rail cover.

4. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief (Without CH 48027) Fuel Pressure Relief (Without CH 48027)Fuel Pressure Relief (CH 48027) Fuel Pressure Relief (CH-48027).




5. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting at the fuel rail (1). Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service Service and Repair.

6. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting at the chassis fuel pipe (3). Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service Service and Repair.

7. Remove the fuel feed hose (2).

8. Cap the chassis fuel pipe and the fuel rail pipe in order to prevent possible fuel system contamination.

9. Inspect the hose for bends, for kinks, for chafing, and for cracks. Replace the hose as required.

Installation Procedure




1. Remove the caps from the chassis fuel pipe and the fuel rail pipe.

2. Connect the fuel feed hose (2) to the chassis fuel pipe (3). Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service Service and Repair.

3. Connect the fuel feed hose (2) to the fuel rail (1). Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service Service and Repair.

4. Tighten the fuel filler cap.

5. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LS7 or LS9) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and ConnectionBattery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LS3) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

6. Perform the following procedure in order to inspect for leaks:

1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.

2. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.

3. Turn the ignition switch ON.

4. Inspect for fuel leaks.

7. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (LS9) Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield ReplacementUpper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (w/o LS9) Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement.

8. Program the transmitters.
