Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (Europe)

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning Brake Dust Warning.


1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (South America) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (South America)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Europe) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Europe).





Note: Do not reuse the brake caliper bracket bolts.

3. Remove and discard the brake caliper bracket bolts (1).

Caution:
Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

4. Remove the brake caliper and bracket assembly and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.




5. Remove the brake rotor bolt (1).




6. Remove the rear brake rotor (1).

Installation Procedure

1. If installing a new brake rotor, clean the friction surfaces of the brake rotor with denatured alcohol or equivalent.

2. Thoroughly clean any rust or corrosion from the mating surface of the hub/axle flange.

3. Thoroughly clean any rust or corrosion from the mating surface of the rotor to the hub/axle flange.




4. Install the rear brake rotor (1).





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

5. Install the brake rotor bolt (1) and tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb in).

6. Install the brake caliper and bracket assembly.





Note: Do not reuse the brake caliper bracket bolts.

7. Install new brake caliper bracket bolts (1) and tighten to 100 Nm + 60 degrees (74 lb ft + 60 degrees).

8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (South America) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (South America)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Europe) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Europe).

9. Burnish the brake pads and rotors. Refer to Brake Pad and Rotor Burnishing Procedures.
