Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LE9)

Removal Procedure

Warning:
Refer to Exhaust Service Warning Service Precautions.


Warning:

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.





Note:

* To prevent internal damage to the flexible coupling of the catalytic converter assembly, the converter must be supported. The vertical movement at the rear of the catalytic converter assembly must not exceed 6 degrees up or down.

* The fastening clips of the exhaust system should be replaced every time that they are loosened. When replacing the exhaust system, the shipping fastening should only be removed after installation and before starting the engine. The shipping fastening should be removed for other operations in which the exhaust system has to be removed, stored and used to secure the flex pipe.

2. Install the shipping fastening (1) to the flex pipe.

3. See assembly instruction (1) on the shipping fastening.





4. Remove the heated oxygen sensor 2 (1) from the exhaust front pipe. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 2 Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 2.

5. Remove the exhaust front pipe from the catalytic converter.





6. Remove the three nuts (1) from the exhaust front pipe (2) and discard the exhaust gasket (3).





7. Remove the exhaust front pipe to the muffler assembly nuts (2) and discard the exhaust gasket (3).

8. Remove the exhaust isolator nuts (1) from the drivetrain and suspension reinforcement brace.

9. Remove the exhaust front pipe isolator studs from the drivetrain and suspension reinforcement brace and lower the exhaust front pipe.

Installation Procedure





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

1. Install the heated oxygen sensor 2 (2) to the exhaust front pipe and tighten to 42 Nm (31 lb ft).





2. Apply a small amount of lubricant to the catalytic converter studs. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers [1][2]Exhaust System.

3. Install a NEW gasket (3) to the exhaust front pipe and tighten the nuts (1) to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).





4. Move the muffler assembly (4) rearward and install a NEW gasket (3). Tighten the nuts (2) to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).

5. Tighten the exhaust front pipe isolator nuts (1) to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).

6. Lower the vehicle.

7. Start the vehicle and check for exhaust leaks.
