Folding Top Cover Side Tension Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Place all the windows in the full down position.

2. Place the folding top in a halfway open position.

3. Remove the number 1 bow stop bracket on the side being serviced.




4. Remove the tension cable spring screw (1) that attaches the tension cable to the number 1 bow.




5. Pull the folding top cover (1) over the corner (2) that is being serviced.

6. Remove the tension cable end from the rear weatherstrip retainer. Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Replacement Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Replacement.

7. Remove the tape from the hole in the rear weatherstrip retainer that retains the end of the tension cable in place.




8. Attach approximately 3 feet of 16-gauge wire to the end of the tension cable (1) to assist in the reinstalling.

9. From the top of the folding top remove the tension cable and spring, leaving the wire in the top pocket.

10. Disconnect the tension cable and spring from the wire.

Installation Procedure





Note: Attach the new tension cable and spring to the end of the wire that was used in the removal. Pull the wire forward until the cable is in the proper position. Remove the wire from the end of the tension cable and spring. Refer to the opposite side for proper routing.

1. Starting from the top corner install the end of the tension cable and spring (1) to a wire, pull the wire down through the folding top side pocket with the tension cable.

2. Insert the tension cable end into the rear weatherstrip retainer hole, pressing firmly on the cable end. Using mask tape or equivalent to secure the tension cable end in place. Refer to Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Replacement Folding Top Side Rear Weatherstrip Replacement.

Note: Do Not route the cable spring end through the number (1) bow just the headliner.

3. Connect the tension cable as follows:

1. Do Not install the cable spring end through the number (1) bow hole.

2. Place a small piece of masking tape over the hole in the number (1) bow.

3. Route the cable spring end through the hole in the top cover material only, then install the screw to the number (1) bow.




4. Position the folding top cover (1) over the corner (2) of the side being serviced.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

5. Install the tension cable and spring screws (1) to the number 1 bow and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).

6. Remove the mask tape from the tension cable end if used.

7. Install the number 1 bow stop bracket.

8. Place the folding top in the lock position, check for appearance and fit.

9. Inspect the front edge of the folding top to windshield frame for a good seal.

10. Water test the vehicle to ensure a proper water tight seal.
